CRUDO

Virginia Chouhy

Bio

Virginia Chouhy (Córdoba, 1973) defines herself as a nomadic artist who explores the path as a territory of action. The materiality of her work varies between found objects, sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, and expanded printmaking beyond traditional formats and mechanics. She has participated in residencies in Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia, with her latest experience being the NARA Residency at Nido de Águila, Colombia, in 2022. She has won grants and received awards for her works, notably as a finalist in the 2016 ITAU Prize. Since 2012, she has held solo exhibitions and participated in group shows, including "Si tendiera mi lecho en el fondo del abismo" (2021, CRUDO) and "Procedimiento silencio" at Fundación OSDE Rosario (2016). She currently lives and works between San Nicolás de los Arroyos and Rosario.

Statement

She defines herself as a nomadic artist from her origins: Chouhy, the one who comes from outside, the outsider, the one who walks the path. She is drawn to the path as a track, as a place of process, as a territory of action, as an active quarry where taking and offering occur in the same act. She finds strength in what emerges. She observes in the material the resonance of displacement, the way of building, of living, the origin. The habitable or uninhabitable nature of space. She collects an object, senses its will. She believes in the internal powers that transcend the visible form of things. She works from intuition, from a state of uncertainty and unease.
