Confines del Paraguay

Fernando Allen Galeano

Bio

Fernando Allen (1959)
Asunción, Paraguay. He began his photography career in 1985. The following year he founded Fotosíntesis, the country's first photo gallery, which later became a publishing house dedicated to the publication of photobooks, artist books, museum catalogues and private collections of popular, indigenous and contemporary art.
His photographic work is mainly developed in the field of popular and indigenous culture and art. He has held some 50 individual and collective exhibitions, and published a significant number of books, from 1992 to the present. He produces audiovisual works on issues of the popular and indigenous mythical world, and contemporary art. As a cultural manager he has organized exhibitions, workshops, seminars and other events on photography and art, both in Paraguay and abroad.

Statement

“Fernando Allen has been researching for more than a decade the complex relationships that emerge from indigenous rituals, and he does so from a position that privileges human contact over any theoretical consideration or specialized approach. He refutes the documentary in his approach to native communities in an operation that ‘creates’ reality from a photographic writing that reveals not only the author’s inclinations and interests, but also broadens the situational context of each image” (Adriana Almada, 2023).
