Curators: Joaquín Rodriguez and Carlos Gutiérrez
This year, NEXT | Fuera de foco features galleries and spaces that expand the map of photographic projects across Argentina, while representing artists whose practices explore photography as an offshoot of wider processes where technique, storytelling, and material experimentation converge. Photography here is understood as a place of transit, from which fictions and narratives are activated.
Though approached in different ways, the selected artists revisit traditional methods to carry out research in which images become stages in the trajectory of an idea.
From translations built on photographic images to records of interventions and ephemeral actions, the works in this section employ procedures that weave memory with a transformative drive, capable of generating both material and symbolic shifts. As if there were no room for externality, the world is observed through a commitment that resists an objective or neutral distance: everything and everyone belong to the same fabric. Here, photography enables vanishing points through which it becomes an active agent of change: documents turn into stories, stories into images, and images into lived experiences.
