Boleslaw Senderowicz

Bio

(Lodz, 1922 - Buenos Aires, 1994)
Born in Poland, he worked as a leading figure in Argentine fashion and advertising photography for almost fifty years. Self-taught, he considered it was essential to share and interact with colleagues, and was deeply interested in visual arts, literature, music and traveling. Since the end of the 1940's, he managed to consolidate his career commercially presenting the new genre of portraits with stars and show business personalities. In the mid-50s, he began to produce for different publishers, creating his own concept of fashion photography. His main innovation consisted in moving the models to different exterior locations, creating dissonances between the characteristics of the environment and the glamour of the designs.
Towards the end of the 1960s, the Senderowicz studio became a pioneer in Argentine advertising photography and produced famous campaigns for various brands. Boleslaw installed the first color laboratory in the city in his studio. At the same time, his interest in exploring the aesthetic possibilities of photography was materialized in his activities at the Foto Club Buenos Aires, and with his participation in La Carpeta de los Diez, for which he exhibited collectively at the Teatro Opera in 1959. In 1990 the Photo Gallery of the San Martín Theater presented his last retrospective exhibition curated by Sara Facio.
