Statement

RES’s work is marked by a strong conceptual accent that investigates the relationship between time, history and representation. In his work there are certain constants that persist up to now: the question of the passage of time and the evolution of the processes that configure certain historical situations, space and, very especially, the gaze focused on the elements of the photographic device: perspective, optics, the history of the pose in the construction of meaning, the culture that grounds and conditions our way of perceiving and photography as a means of expression per se, capable of generating critical points of view that invite thought and reflection. From his works, RES represents a lost order, one that was present and leaves a register of its emptiness with its absence. “Where are they and imams” (1984-1989), “Pardiez” (1990-1993), “About Jorge Luis Borges” (1996), “El Plastiquito”, “NECAH 1879” (1996-2008), “Intermittent intervals” (1998 -2004) and “Conatus” (2005-2006) are representative series of a way of thinking about the image and its subsequent exhibition, with an unparalleled imprint of the artist: his exhibitions circulate combining widely legitimized artistic fields with a specialized public characteristic of the large cities, as well as alternative exhibition places, totally outsiders to this hegemonic circuit and even contemplating simultaneous actions in different cities of the world. These are precisely actions, such as “Belgrano and Santucho at the Monument” (2010), where RES finds fertile ground to capture theoretical reflections with strong social and political implications, resorting to the ability of photography to operate as a documentary register of collective memory.
