Gonzalo Lauda

Bio

Gonzalo Lauda was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1967. From the beginning, his interest in the reliefs, fauna and landscapes of his country, impelled him to work deeper into artistic photography. This interest remains constant throughout his career.
He started in the world of fashion photography. His first studio was set up in the garage of his father's house, where he carried out his first work with friends.
After a while, he entered the world of advertising photography, where he ended up settling down in 2009, founding his own production company, STRUKA. During those years he worked for major national and international brands and, at the same time, resumed his interest in the world of artistic photography, where he undertook new photographic trips around Argentina.
In 2013 he published “Agua”, where he gathers photographs of horizons where the sea and lakes of Argentine Patagonia play a leading role.
In 2015 he visited Malvinas Islands, giving as a result his second book “Malvinas”. This interest in history has taken him to work in the “Battles” series, where he recreates scenes of Argentina’s independence history.

Statement

In 'Battles', through an almost cinematopraghic photography production , Gonzalo Lauda gives life to this series where he recreates milestones in the history of Argentina's Independence. In a titanic task, the artist mobilizes the current Argentine army to special locations to get the ideal shot: movement, light and atmosphere play a key role in each work. The images take up characteristics of European painting with historical accents: the romantic spirit and the power of glory are present.
Lauda manages to separate himself from the historical military question and highlight the effort, the work, the camaraderie. The expressions in the most dramatic shots lead us to hear screams and gallops, as well as catch moments of calm in the immensity. With enormous post-production work, incredible images of moments that have only been imagined or portrayed in paintings are achieved.
