Hernán Soriano

Bio

Hernán Soriano was born in Buenos Aires in 1978.
He studied at escuela de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón and tEscuela de Diseño y Comunicación. He received a scholarship from the Centro de Investigaciones Artísticas and Programa P.A.C
He trained as a painter and draftsman. His exploration into the construction of objects and artifacts began in 2003, concurrently with the formation and participation in the "Provisorio Permanente" Collective, a group that won the "Currículum Cero" from Ruth Benzacar Gallery. Additionally, in 2014, the "Totem y Tabú" Art Collective was formed, in which he participated in research and artworks related to the origin of certain prohibitions.
Among his most notable solo exhibitions in Buenos Aires are: "Planear" (2021, Quimera Gallery); "El tiempo que nos queda" (2020, Lanzallamas Gallery); "Formar mentalmente una máquina" (2016, Museo de arte Moderno de Buenos Aires); "Edición" (2015, Document Art Gallery); among others.
He also participated in group exhibitions such as "La memoria de los materiales" (Arthaus 2023), "Semana del Arte" (Tótem Tabú 2022, Pira de la Gran Bruja, Jardín Botánico), "Historias de Brujas" (Tótem Tabú 2019, Parque de la Memoria, as part of Bienal Sur), "Una llamada pertinaz" (2018, Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires), "Le(s) Vestibule(s)" (2014, La Maison Rouge, France), among others.
In 2022, he was awarded the Azcuy Prize for the "Sonos" project.

Statement

Draftsman, sculptor, and artifact constructor. He works with manual crafts and obsolete or discarded technologies. He employs an intuitive, amateur, scientific, and symbolic research method.
